New University Funding Model: According to the new university funding model this is how the university funding will be for students joining the university year 2024/25. Each Family will be categorized into five bands:
—Band 1: Families whose monthly income up to Sh5,995
—Band 2: Families whose monthly income up to Sh23,670
—Band 3: Families whose monthly income up to Sh70,000
—Band 4: Families whose monthly income up to Sh120,000
—Band 5: Families whose monthly income above Sh120,000
Families that fall under Band 1 the government scholarship will cover 70%, the loan will cover 25%, making the total support 95%. The family will contribute 5%, and the HEF upkeep loan will be Sh60,000.
For Band 2 that is for families who earn up to Sh23,670.
The government scholarship will cover 60%, the loan will cover 30%, making the total support 90%. The family will contribute 10%, and HEF upkeep loan will be Sh55,000.
For families in Band 3 meaning those whose income is up to up to Sh70,000.
The government scholarship will cover 50%, the loan will cover 30%, making the total support 80%. The family will contribute 20%, and the upkeep loan will be Sh50,000.
Families in Band 4, those earning upro Sh120,000. The government scholarship will cover 40%, the loan will cover 30%, making the total support 70%. The family will contribute 30%, and the upkeep loan will be Sh45,000.
Finally Band 5 is for families who earn above Sh120,000.
The government scholarship will cover 30%, the loan will cover 30%, making the total support 60%. The family will contribute 40%, and the upkeep loan will be Sh40,000.
